Last couple of weeks were insane. After the last video was posted on Youtube, loads of people got interested in the Human Birdwings project. I noticed that many people started to explore the story behind the wings on my blog, Youtube channel, Facebook and Twitter. It’s good to see that the discussions on the wings are still going and that many people got inspired by the concept.
For me this project was all about an ancient dream, the seamingly impossible and pushing the limits of human capabilities and technical applications. I am happy that a lot of people wanted to dismiss scientific boundaries for a moment and allowed themselves to share the dream with me.
Thanks for all your input and interest last months, let us never stop dreaming!
Henryk, a frequent poster on my blog just sent me this video. It’s a wing mechanism by Pascal Martinelli. And I have to say it looks very promising. It would be interesting to see how this combines with my haptic controlling system.
This tuesday (28th feb) an article about my project and my flying dream got published in the Belgian weekly HUMO. The picture they took is awesome. They made me look like batman! It’s written in Dutch. So all Dutch speaking and reading fans out there, check it out. A part of this article is available online too: Jarno bouwt zijn eigen vleugels.
You guys might have been wondering, what has Jarno been up to?
The wing mechanism have been taken apart for detailed fixing. The freezing cold inside my workshop brought the risk of damaging the mechanics, so I decided to disassemble it. Sa after the first testflight I have spent time giving it some ‘tender love and care’. As you can see on the pictures below, the wingfabric is torn in some places. For now I’m quick-fixing it with duct tape. In the meanwhile thinking about a better solution.
Another reason nothing special has been happening is that The Netherlands have been covered with snow since the beginning of february. Which was a pity because I felt really anxious to try a second time with my wings. Anyhow, I have taken my time to relax, enjoy some iceskating and working on the wings. The passed couple of days the snow has melted away, so when the sun shines there might be some opportunities to fly coming up.
